FAQs

Q1.  Is SDIU accredited?

A1.  SDIU is in the process of approval through the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), and subsequent accreditation through the Distance Education Training Counsel (DETC), a national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Q2.  Are there classroom courses offered at SDIU?

A2.  SDIU delivers all course materials and instruction via distant learning (online), so presently, there are no classroom courses requiring physical attendance.  SDIU attracts students from across the United States and abroad.

Q3.  Is there a deadline for admission?

A3.  Because we cater to working professionals, admission is continuous and no deadlines are applicable.

Q4.  When do classes begin?

A4.  Regular 3-credit (semester hours) academic classes normally begin on a Monday and last for five weeks.  Professional Certificate programs normally begin on a Tuesday, with duration dependent on the specific certificate.  Extension Courses begin anytime, and completed based on the student’s pace, although there is normally a course access period associated with each extension course.

Q5.  Do I have to be admitted as an SDIU Student to take Professional Certificate or Extended Learning courses?

A5.  Yes, for Professional Certificate courses, but not for Extended Learning courses.

Q6.  Do I need to be proficient in the English language to be admitted to SDIU?

A6.  Since all course materials and instruction are given in English, students at SDIU must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.  There is currently no requirement for taking the TOEFL test, although this is likely to change in the near future as admission requests from abroad continue to grow.
